Avengers Assemble
For all of us, especially the millennials, Marvel has been a huge part of growing up. We all at some point in our lives have either read the comics or watched the movies. Whether it be because of the story, action, actors or the hype; we've watched it and loved it.
When the Phase III of the Marvel Cinematic Universe came to an end, it evoked a variety of emotions from its viewers. Some felt excitement for the upcoming movies, while some were upset that they no longer would be able to see their favorite original superheroes on the big screen, ever again. But, Marvel can never see their fans upset, so they introduced Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. to its fans. Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. is the exhibition of original Marvel movie props and suits worn by the actors, that is touring all over the world - stopping over at every major city - to spend time with fans.
Being a fan myself, I was excited when I came to know that Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. was coming to Mumbai. So, my friends and I decided to come together for it. After all, when going to see your favorite gang of superheroes, you've to take your own gang along.
The exhibition kicked off with an address from Agent Maria Hill welcoming the new agents to the top floor of the Avengers HQ. The “orientation” was held in boxed-up space with led screens lining every inch of the walls giving it a high-tech feel. The exhibit was divided into sections which were dedicated to each Avenger. It was a surreal experience to stand there and actually feel like a real agent.
The first section was dedicated to none other than Tony Stark aka Iron Man. It included a history on the Avenger. They also had on display every Iron Man suit ever worn in a movie, right from The Mark I to The Hulkbuster. This section also offered the visitors to take part in an AI game where people were allowed to suit up in The Hulkbuster and fight Ultrons.
The next section was dedicated to Dr Bruce Banner with his research along with the lab on display in great detail. It also had an interactive area where people could make Hulk do any of the three activities available as choice, with a full surround effect.
The next section was my favorite, Captain America. I felt like a child all over again when we walked into this section, and it took me a lot effort to not jump around like a 5 year old. It had a full background on the first Avenger right from the world war era to the year 2023. The display included his suit, shield and bike Harley-Davidson Street 750 from The Winter Soldier, along with the Project Rebirth Pod. This section also had an interactive area where both adults and children could measure their strength on an Avengers scale.
This section was also shared with the king of Wakanda, Black Panther, whose display included his mask, the heart-shaped herb and the Kimoyo beads.
The next section was dedicated to the Asgardians. No words can describe the amazing the visual display which gave the feel of zooming through space and time. The display in this section included the entire ensemble of both Thor and Loki, and Thor’s Hammer, Mjölnir.
The next section was shared by the rest of the Avengers including, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Falcon, Ant-man and the Wasp. The suits of the first three were put on display along with their weapons and history. The display also included Falcon’s vest and Ant-man’s mask. A part of the section was marked as Dr Pym’s lab with lab-like displays to give the full effect.
The final section was dedicated to them who make our heroes, heroes. The villains. This section had on display villains like Ultron, Dark Elves and Thanos, along with their weapons. This section too had multiple interactive games.
The exhibit came to a close with an AI game where people could fight the Ultrons from The Age of Ultron, including Ultron Prime using the skills of their preferred Avenger from the original six. My Avenger of choice was Black Widow. The exhibition then lead into the Marvel store where fans could buy unique and exciting merchandise, including a personalized SHIELD Agent ID with their name and photo on it.
All things considered, it was a surreal experience which is a must every Marvel fan and a dream come true for every kid.
